How to learn Japanese

Among the three languages we specialize in, our Japanese programs have received a significant amount of investment in terms of time and effort. We took into consideration feedback from students who had previous Japanese learning experiences elsewhere. They mentioned that their Japanese beginner classes mainly focused on teaching Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji, with little emphasis on basic conversation training, leading to a silent learning environment.

To address this issue, we have made a conscious decision to revolutionize our approach. In our Japanese beginner courses, we prioritize enabling students to speak Japanese right from Lesson 1 and continue building their conversational skills throughout the entire course. As a result, we have chosen not to teach Kanji in our beginner curriculum, allowing our students to focus on spoken proficiency and building a strong foundation in the language.

At our language school, we follow a comprehensive approach called “Input + Output + Immersion.” This means that we begin by teaching you “how the language works” using innovative scale folding methods to grasp the fundamentals effectively. Subsequently, we engage you in output practices, encouraging you to participate in conversations, writing, and even singing exercises to enhance your language skills. Our immersive learning experience incorporates a diverse range of multimedia resources, cultural experiences, and networking opportunities. These enriching elements are mostly provided free of charge to our students, ensuring a holistic and enjoyable Japanese learning journey.

Japanese JLPT test

The JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) is a standardized exam held in London once a year. It assesses Japanese language proficiency for non-native speakers across five levels. It’s recognized worldwide and provides certification for educational and professional purposes. Much similar to other language proficiency test, JLPT offers our students a chance to measure their progress, and to gain credentials.

Our Japanese courses at the beginner level are not primarily focused on test preparation. Instead, we prioritize creating a language classroom environment that encourages active engagement, meaningful conversations, and instant feedback from both teachers and fellow learners. Our classes cater to students who are eager to learn to speak Japanese.

That being said, our beginner to Elementary courses encompass a substantial portion of the JLPT N5 contents. As students progress to the Intermediate level and beyond, our courses will be specifically designed to practice and cover the JLPT test N3 and above requirements, aligning with their advanced language proficiency goals.

Best Books to Learn Japanese

When beginning their journey to learn Japanese, many learners often turn to Google to find the most suitable textbooks that can provide a structured learning approach. These books serve as a valuable resource for learners to take progressive steps in their language acquisition. Notably, there are popular self-learning books available, as well as official textbooks issued by the Japanese government.

In our case, we have developed our own set of Chinese learning books, consisting of 6 fluency coursebooks, 6 Hanzi (Chinese Kanji) books, and 2 Pinyin (Chinese Hanguel) books. These materials were carefully crafted to assist our students in comprehending language functions effectively, enabling them to practice and expand their skills adeptly. In the case of Japanese learning books, we found “Japanese for Busy People,” which was reputedly also written by teachers aiming to provide the conversational practice for their students in the classroom. That’s why we chose the books to set our Japanese program curriculums.
