There are 6 courses in this Upper Intermediate level, in total 60 lesson (90 course hours plus 90 homework hours). We’ve based our curriculum on the Japanese JLPT N3 standard, using the coursebook TRY! N3. However, our lessons aren’t solely focused on grammar. We still prioritize fluency skill training, using a variety of learning resources specifically designed for each lesson by our school.

Many students at this level would experience what most language learners experience – the Intermediate Plateau, i.e. you are not a Beginner anymore; you’ve invested a lot of time and effort to learn how the language works, yet your fluency skills are somewhere far from a native speaker.

We will focus on helping our students over this intermediate plateau by incorporating a lot of real-life material and a lot of conversational practice. To cover more complex grammar and vocabulary while still adhering to the basics required for N3, we will use TRY!N3 to set our curriculum. However, our lessons are structured to balance language function learning with cultural discussions and a lot of conversational practice to improve your fluency skills. That’s why we incorporate books like Marugoto and multi-media material to help students acquire natural conversational skills and deepen their understanding of Japanese culture. Students will learn about real daily life in Japan, not just from textbooks.

As an Upper Intermediate graduate, you should be able to achieve independent speaker skills. This means that your listening and speaking skills will be adequate to carry you through most conversations with native speakers, even when you lack some vocabulary. You should be able to explain yourself and get your point across effectively.

For private lessons, we also use other materials , including news paper, online articles, Youtube videos, etc. We offer lessons that best suit the student’s needs.

  • If you are not sure which course to take, take a placement test, or contact us.
  • If you wish to take Nihongo Noryoku Shiken 日本語能力試験 a.k.a. JLPT Level N3 at the end of your Upper-Intermediate level learning, consult our teachers for personal advice.

To cover these skills, we use a TRY! N1 to cover the language function learning, and 上级日本语 for advanced reading and writing. We would also recommend using real life material, such as newspaper, TV news, online articles, drama and movies for your learning. How to learn Japanese?

Believe it or not, learning Japanese can be a phonetically straightforward journey. Many of our students have expressed their admiration for the beautiful sounds of Japanese, which, when combined with the essence of Japanese etiquettes, creates a romantic connection to the country’s rich culture, heritage, and way of life.

Practically speaking, Japan boasts the position of the third-largest economy globally. As Asian economies continue to ascend, acquiring proficiency in Japanese opens up abundant job opportunities within the region. Moreover, Japanese acts as a gateway to exploring diverse Asian languages and cultures, fostering cross-cultural connections.

For those with business aspirations in Japan, understanding the language becomes indispensable, simplifying access to vital information and communication within the Japanese market. Additionally, for travelers to Japan, the ability to converse with local Japanese and effortlessly order food adds convenience and enhances the overall experience in this captivating country.

We would say yes, but no at the beginning.
Japanese writing system consists in three types hiragana (平仮名), katakana (片仮名), and kanji (漢字). Each of them has different usage and purpose. If you plan to live in Japan, I would say Kanji is very important. However, if you just want to talk with Japanese people, it’s okay if you don’t know Kanji. We will only introduce Kanji to your Japanese courses from Elementary level upward.

You may find it surprising that a significant number of our students already possess prior Kana learning experience. With the convenience of free phone Apps like Duolingo, many embark on their Japanese journey by tackling Kana learning, a truly valuable foundation. Mastering the 46 Hiragana and 46 Katakana characters undoubtedly requires some time and dedication, making any learning history you have beneficial.

While Kana proficiency is valuable, we understand that some students seek Japanese speaking classes. Our Japanese classes in London or online place a strong emphasis on fluency training. If your speaking level is at the beginner stage, you may find that you’ll spend less time on Kana learning compared to others. However, for a comprehensive learning experience, we recommend starting from Beginner 1, where you can build a solid foundation to enhance your speaking skills.

The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is held in Japan and abroad to evaluate and certify the Japanese proficiency of non-native speakers. The certificate is the official language proficiency proof for your Japanese skill.

The JLPT test have five levels.

The easiest level is N5 and the most difficult level is N1.

Our Entry Beginner and Advanced Beginner courses are designed to help you pass N5. If you attend our classes regularly and organize your home study, it’s the best way to achieve your ideal test result.

Of course! We offer both group classes and online classes in Dear Asia, and you can also book private lessons with our teachers. Our teachers are all very professional and willing to help with your test preparation.

Private Japanese Lessons near you

Based on our experience, we’ve noticed that certain types of students prefer private Japanese lessons over group classes. These individuals typically fall into a few categories:

  1. Imminent Relocation or Travel: Students who are planning to relocate to Japan or have travel plans to the country soon prefer the personalized attention and rapid progress offered by private lessons.
  2. Busy Schedule: For individuals with demanding schedules or unpredictable commitments, private lessons offer the flexibility to tailor the learning pace and timings to their convenience.
