The Sejong Korean Series (new edition):
The Sejong Korean books are published by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the National Institute of Korean Language, first in 2011, to strengthen the groundwork of Korean language education. They have decided to update the textbook, the primary research started in 2019, and after three years of work, the new Sejong Korean was finally published in 2022.
Sejong Korean aims to enable students to improve their communication skills in Korean by motivating their interest in learning the Korean language based on cross-cultural communication. Thus, the content of this book reflects the current social situations in Korea, and the new format and design introduce the latest teaching methods.
Here are some good content and materials from the book:
- Student book — contains the core content required for each level
- Vocabulary and Grammar Book: Books that include grammar explanations and the vocabulary of each level translated into English
- Extension activity book — provides a variety of communication activities that require in-depth expansion of language knowledge. An additional workbook for students with activities related to speaking and listening comprehension.
- Supplementary — workbooks, teacher’s guides, vocabulary and grammar books, and class PPTs along with textbooks that students can use for their needs
- Various illustrations and visual materials — motivate a learner’s interest in learning Korean
- Vivid Korean cultural content — Korean movies, Korean drama, Korean food, Korean fashion, etc.
Beginner Learning Programs:
For all Korean beginner learners in London or online, we have designed 3 Korean beginner courses, in total 30 lesson (45 course hours plus 45 home work hours). Our students will be using the prestigious Sejong Korean Institute books Level 1 Book A and Book B accompanied with all other Dear Asia London learning resources and learning materials.
Our Korean Beginner 1 Course is designed for complete beginners to learn Hangeul (the Korean phonetic system), so students can achieve natural pronunciation, read and write well at this very first step.
Our topics in this course include greetings, self-introduction, two number system, shopping and going around.
After that, you can advance to Korean Beginner 2 Course which is designed for students with Hangeul foundation, and with 200 or more vocabularies.
In this course, students will continue to practise ask and answer basic questions about your background, and will learn to talk about daily life, times, date, weather, season, share what you did on the weekend, make plans and suggest plans, talk about favourite food and Korean food and hobbies.
On our final beginner course, students will already have knowledge of 400 or more vocabularies, you will be able to respond to basic questions about daily life, hobbies, weather, food etc.
In this course, students will learn topics about shopping plans, sharing shopping experiences, giving directions, transportations, suggesting and recommending a gathering, writing an invitation message, sending kakao/WhatsApp message in Korean.
When you graduate from our Korean Beginner courses, you should be able to read and write Hangeul smoothly, speak with natural pronunciation. In conversations, you can talk about your daily life, sharing your experiences such as personal plans, shopping and traveling. You can even write in Korean to send messages or emails. We understand most of our students are looking for Korean speaking classes nearby, that’s why we have designed our Beginner Korean language courses to have a strong focus in fluency skill training.
Korean Elementary Programs
Elementary is our next level after Beginner, we have planned 4 Elementary Korean courses, in total 40 lesson (60 course hours plus 60 home work hours). Our students will be using the Sejong Korean Institute books Level 2 Book A and Book B accompanied with all other Dear Asia learning resources and materials.
Our Korean Elementary 1 Course is designed for learners who has finished beginner learning or are able to read and pronounce Hangeul smoothly, give self introduction, use of numbers, talk about their daily schedule etc.
Our topics in this course include talking about what you do you do, introducing your friends, making and suggesting plans and explaining your neighbour and place. Also, student can write about your places you like.
Then you can advance to Korean Elementary 2 Course which is designed for students who has knowledge of 600 or more vocabularies, who can respond to questions about your family and friends, who can conjugate verbs and adjectives properly.
In this course, students can talk about wishes you would like to eat, things you would like to buy, travel plans and experiences and introduce precious gifts. Writing about dishes you eat every day, things you often buy, travel experiences, an invitation to a party, an email inquiring about an event.
In our Korean Elementary 3 course, our topics include talking about essential etiquette, various personalities and characteristics while describing, comparing, explaining. You can share your wish list and good changes while comparing and asking/answering questions.
Our Korean Elementary 4 Course is designed for students who has knowledge of 1000 or more vocabularies, who also can choose and use formal and informal language properly depending on the situations.
Our topics in this course include talking about essential etiquette, various personalities and characteristics while describing, comparing, explaining. You can share your wish list and good changes while comparing and asking/answering questions.
When you graduate from our Elementary Korean courses, you should be able to build on the foundation obtained in Level 1, have good command of appropriate use of formal and informal speech. You can also develop vocabulary and communicate well in questions and answers to daily topics such as daily routines, housing, lifestyle, travel preparations, feelings and wishes etc.
Intermediate Korean programs:
We have planned 4 Intermediate Korean courses, in total 40 lesson (60 course hours plus 60 home work hours). Our Korean Intermediate 1 Course is designed for students who has knowledge of 1000 or more vocabularies, who has also developed communicative skills to talk with a native Korean speaker in common subjects, who can express his / her opinions and thoughts in 3+ minutes.
In this course, students will continue to practise their conversational skills to talk about current status, housing conditions, household chores, special occasions and celebrations.
After that, you can move on to Korean Intermediate 2 Course which is designed for students who has knowledge of 1400 or more vocabularies, who can respond to questions about formal or informal situations.
In this course, students will continue to practise their conversational skills to talk about feeling and health, leisure life, special experiences, food and cook. Also, writing about good habit, recommending your favourite films TV series, presenting your favourite Tv stars or celebrities.
In our Intermediate 3 and 4 course, students will continue to practise their conversational skills to talk about mistakes and errors, apologise, Korean wedding ceremonies , national holidays and personal vocations etc.
Once you graduate, you should be able to have a good command of Korean grammars, you can conjugate well, use formal or informal speech accordingly. You can also read and write Hangeul without obstacles. You should have further developed your conversational skills to talk about various daily subjects with a native speaker. You should be able to express your thought and opinions, give a presentation in Korean for 5 minutes or more.
