Japanese complete beginner student – Hannah Wade
You know, what really draws me in is the complexity of Japanese. The idea of juggling different writing systems like Kanji, Hiragana, and Katakana is like solving a puzzle. And then there’s the whole concept of politeness levels and honorifics—how cool is that? It’s not just about words; it’s about understanding a culture through language.
Fan of Japanese Author: Another thing that has me pumped is the chance to dive into Japanese literature. Imagine reading authors like Haruki Murakami in their own words! It’s like experiencing their stories the way they intended, with all the emotions and nuances intact. I’m really looking forward to exploring their world through their language.
Getting More from Travel: Traveling in Japan will be a whole new level of awesome. Being able to read signs, have basic conversations, and catch the cultural references around me—it’s like getting a backstage pass to the country. From the busy streets of Tokyo to the serene landscapes of Kyoto, speaking Japanese will add a layer of connection and understanding.
Challenges: Oh, and you know what’s really thrilling? The mental challenge. Learning a language as intricate as Japanese is like training my brain. The different sentence structures and thinking in a different way—it’s like doing a workout for my mind. And hey, if I can conquer this, it’ll give me a confidence boost for tackling other learning adventures.
So, yeah, these are the things that really get me hyped about learning Japanese. The complexity, the literary journey, the travel perks, and the mental workout—it’s a package deal of excitement for me!

Connecting with People: One thing that truly excites me is the prospect of connecting with people on a deeper level. Learning Japanese opens the door to building relationships with native speakers in a more authentic way. Imagine being able to have heartwarming conversations, exchange cultural stories, and make friends from a completely different background. It’s like building bridges between cultures through language.
Japanese Media and Entertainment: I am a big fan of Japanese anime and movies, Japanese media is incredibly diverse and creative. There’s a whole world of entertainment waiting for me once I learn the language. Being able to watch anime without subtitles or enjoy Japanese music without translations—it’s like discovering a treasure trove of content that was previously inaccessible to me.
Personal Growth through Challenges: The challenge of learning Japanese is both exciting and fulfilling. It’s not just about memorizing words; it’s about embracing a new way of thinking and communicating. Overcoming the hurdles of learning Kanji characters or understanding complex sentence structures is like a personal journey of growth. Each step I take feels like an accomplishment, and that sense of progress really keeps me motivated.

Fan of Japanese Manga: I love Japanese culture, like manga and Japanese TV. Not a lot of it gets translated or subtitled into English, moreover to enjoy anything completely you need to learn the language and learn it well.
Dream of relocation: Someday I wish to move there. Japan is an incredibly beautiful country in terms of natural beauty and I am a nature person. Japan is actually at the cutting edge of research in my field (photonics), so I expect to find a lot of work in Japan. I practice Japanese Karate, so there is an inherent desire to get closer to the home of a lifelong passion.
Challenge myself: Japanese is inherently a rather difficult language to master. Personally,I am terribly attracted to anything challenging, so I find learning Japanese very invigorating.
