Being a foodie means I am on constant lookout for new restaurants to try in London. Here I have got the top list for the most anticipated new Asian restaurants opening this year.

Shiro

  • What – Contemporary Japanese
  • Where – 100 Liverpool Street, London EC2M 2RH
  • When – opening 2022

Contemporary Japanese restaurant, Shiro, certainly leads the way to culinary revolution. It will be Aqua Group’s fifth restaurants in London. Following its success in Hong Kong, where it became famed for serving its crystal sushi, an offering that saw chefs infuse slivers of jelly with intense flavours such as ponzu, dashi and sake, before draping them on top of sushi.

Speedboat Bar

  • What – Thai / Chinese
  • Where – 30 Rupert Street, London W1D 6DL
  • When – opening September 2022

Luke Farrell, the chef behind the success of the Southern Thai eatery, Plaza Khao Gaeng, is getting ready to open a standalone restaurant. Speedboat Bar will be a Thai-Chinese shophouses of Bangkok’s Chinatown quarter, with an upstairs bar decorated with signed portraits of Thailand’s canal speedboat racers, Speedboat Bar recreates the country’s zingy wok cookery with dishes like drunken noodles and stir fries, alongside tom yam mama soup, crispy fish & pork floss salad.

Rambutan

  • What – Sri-Lankan Tamil
  • Where – 10 Stoney Street, London SE1 9AD
  • When – opening August 2022

Sri-Lankan food is definitely not on the mainstream, but it doesn’t make it anything less. You should definitely give it a go if you haven’t tried it.  Cynthia Shanmugalinga is a chef, cookbook author with Sri Lankan roots. She has extended her adventure in opening Rambutan after travelling extensively in Sri Lankan. She wants to bring her love of food to London and inspires London diners with Sri Lankan Tamil cooking.

Chop Chop by Four Season

  • What – Authentic Cantonese
  • Where – Hippodrome, Cranbourn St, London WC2H
  • When – opening August 2022

Four Seasons is one of the most popular Cantonese restaurants in Chinatown. They already have three restaurants and a new addition will be opening in Hippodrome casino. It is part of the new dining concept sets to launch at the casino for its expansion this year. The design of the new contemporary Chinese restaurant will nod to old Hong Kong. You will find their renowned roasted duck , dim sum with vegan options on the menu.

Aragawa London

  • What – Japanese Steakhouse
  • Where – 38 Clarges Street, London W1J 7EN
  • When – opening 2022

Good news for Japanese food or meat lover! Aragawa, which opened in Kobe in 1956 but is now most famous for its Tokyo steakhouse. It specialises in serving Kobe beef from Tajima-gyu, grilled using a Binchozumi oven fired with local wood. You don’t have to fly to Japan for their melt-in-the-mouth Kobe beef. It doesn’t come cheap though so you may want to save it for a very special occasion.
