Event Invitation

September marks ESEA Heritage Month—a month-long celebration dedicated to East and Southeast Asian heritage, culture, history, and everything in between. At Dear Asia London, as an Asian language school, we strive to celebrate and honor the diverse cultures, languages, achievements and promote positive representation of the ESEA community.

ESEA Heritage month is the perfect time to recognise the valuable contributions these communities make to our society, from business and arts to education and beyond. Join us for a fun social, where we’ll raise a toast to our vibrant community and honour the efforts of our dedicated teachers with the majority from East Asia. It’s an opportunity to come together, reclaim our history by sharing our own stories and experiences. It also provides learning opportunities for others, and appreciate the cultural diversity that enriches our lives.

Cultural introduction

Did you know there are many countries that make up the ESEA region? These include Brunei, Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, North Korea, Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam. That’s a rich mix of cultures, identities, heritages, roots, languages, and more within the UK.

Compared to other months commemorating other cultures, ESEA Heritage Month is in its infancy with 2024 being its fourth year in the UK. While it’s not officially recognised, it’s fast growing and being recognised across company promoting diversity & inclusion groups, local communities, and wider society.

Campaign has been set up to raise awareness of ESEA communities, and the uniqueness varying identities bring. It will also promote ESEA businesses, organisations and individuals, providing the broad representation we currently lack. Ultimately, ESEA Heritage Month will be a celebration of our communities – their cultures, their histories and their futures.
